Nice doing business with you!
It's been in the works for the past few months and now it's finally here: Wetfish is registered for business. There is now a legal structure in place allowing Wetfish to pay members of the community for their contributions to projects. Whether you're a designer, developer, writer, or something else entirely, odds are there's some way you can help. Check out the Jobs board on Trello for more details.
As discussed on the forums, a bank account for Wetfish has been set up and a transparency page is being developed using the Plaid API. The transparency page will be automatically updated, allowing members of the community and the public to see how much money is available to the company and how it's being spent.
At the time of writing, the account's balance is $6,000—an initial investment made by me to cover the costs of contractors over the next 6 months. As a nice bonus, Wetfish is currently earning enough in advertising revenue to cover the operating costs for its websites and IRC servers.
The plan over the next few months is to develop a donation platform, e-commerce platform, and new versions of existing wetfish projects. This would provide immediate benefit to the community while also creating software that can be customized and sold to other businesses.
